In 1998 Mark got a job working in the Antarctic. Not owning a camera, he decided he should really take one to record his trip. He bought an old Pentax ME Super from a friend for £20, which then froze and broke during the winter in the cold. For the rest of the winter he used a damaged Nikon FM2 with a 28mm Nikkor lens that had been left at the research station.

Mark was subsequently employed for a further four years working predominantly at Halley Research Station, and returned to the Antarctic with more suitable equipment to record the Antarctic winter.

Mark is self-taught and is now based in Lancashire, UK.

His work has been published by Mountain Equipment in addition to a number of journals including New Scientist magazine.
